The Bedford Sixth Form 16-19 Bursary

Strictly for students aged 16-18 and less than 19 on 31 August 2018 where total household income is less than £30,000.  If you are aged 19+ and this is the first year of your course please visit our Support for students aged over 19 page.

Travel Bursary This is a means-tested bursary of £350 or £450 depending on where you live to help with the costs of travelling to college. It is only available if you do not receive subsidised travel through your local authority; you live more than 3 miles from the campus and have a household income of less than £30,000.
Vulnerable Learner Bursary You could get up to £1,200 towards your course costs, meals and travel if at least one of the following applies:
  • you’re in or have recently left local authority care
  • you get Income Support or Universal Credit in your name
  • you’re disabled and get both Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), and either Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in your name.
Course Costs Bursary You could get up to 90% off essential course costs such as trips. You may also be eligible for a £50 book grant.
Discretionary Hardship Bursary You could get up to £100 per term towards general costs. It is for exceptional financial hardship and applies where there is a household income of £16,190 or less, subject to funding being available once all other needs have been met.
Meals Bursary This bursary affords eligible students with a free healthy meal up to £2.50 on the days they are timetabled to attend the Bedford sixth Form.
Childcare Support If you're a parent aged 16-19 the Government's Care to Learn scheme could pay up to £160 per child per week towards your childcare and travel costs whilst you study. You can find out more on the Care to Learn website.

Bursary Application Forms for New Learners (January 2017/18 enrolments only)

Note: The bursary application is now only open to continuing students who become vulnerable learners during the course of the academic year and those taking on a course which started after January 2018.

2018/19 applications

2018/19 Bursary guidance and application forms will be available from Friday 1 June 2018.

You will be required to upload evidence to proof eligibility for one of our bursaries. Please have this to hand; you will be able to save your work and come back to complete your application at a later time.
