The Bedford Sixth Form versus school

Wednesday 7 April 2021

Deciding what to do after you complete your GCSEs is a big decision and we want to help you decide what is right for you. A decision you will soon have to make is whether you should stay on at school to do A-Levels or continue your education elsewhere.

When a decision like this needs to be made, writing a pros and cons list is always a good idea because it allows you to make a more informed decision.

Of course, we think our Sixth Form is great, but we also know that you won’t know what it has to offer until you get here. Here are some highlights of choosing to study with us:

A spectacular range of subjects to choose from: We offer 33 A-Levels, three Extended Diplomas, two National Diplomas, and a GCSE Foundation Programme which means you have a huge selection of subjects to pick from. All of our subjects enable you to progress on to university or employment to pursue your dream career.

Meet new people in a new place: We know it can be a little worrying if none of your other friends are leaving school to join a new place of education. But, one of the best things about coming to the Sixth Form is making new friends who have similar interests to you both in the classroom and outside in a completely new environment.

A more independent you: You are guaranteed to be able to express yourself freely and become more independent whilst you study with us. On top of this, your learning will be enhanced by trips, work experience, and personal development opportunities to ensure you get the most out of your time here.

A stepping stone towards your dream career: Joining the Sixth Form provides you with the perfect stepping stone into your chosen industry. Many of our teachers have industry experience, Masters, and PHDs which means they’ve had a career in the area they are teaching you. What’s more, most of our students have progressed on to prestigious universities (including Russell Group universities) or into paid employment after completing their studies with us.

Exciting enrichment: When you choose to study with us, life doesn’t stop at the end of lessons – we have a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities that you can take part in which aim to enhance your learning experience and strengthen your UCAS application or CV. Find out more about what clubs and societies are available here.

Your very own support team: You will be assigned a professionally trained Personal Achievement Tutor who will provide you with one-to-one support throughout your time with us. You will also meet your tutor with other students in your tutor group so that we can ensure you are fully informed about what’s going on at the Sixth Form and to work on projects such as career planning. Our expert Student Services Advisers will give you all the support you need when you need it; whether it’s financial support or career advice, we’ve got you covered!
