Latest Updates

Thursday 23 September 2021

We have been delighted to see students returning to The Bedford Sixth Form over the last few weeks. We thought it would be useful to send a reminder of the key actions we are implementing at the Sixth Form and also what to do if you feel unwell.

To keep everyone safe this term, we will be asking everyone to follow the safety measures below which are based on the advice from The British Medical Association and local Public Health England:

  • Take a rapid lateral flow test at home twice a week before you travel to the Sixth Form and report results straight away to help find cases in people who may have no symptoms but are still infectious and can give the virus to others.
  • Download our testing app. You should have received an email inviting you to download the app (available via www.testregister.co.uk). This will save you time and helps us to identify any areas of concern so we can act quickly. Once you have downloaded the app, you will be asked to register your details and will then be able to record your rapid test results.
  • Continue to wear face coverings when in communal social areas whilst at the Sixth Form such as walking into the building, corridors, breakout areas and seating areas. Wearing is caring.
  • Wash your hands or use the hand sanitising stations when entering and exiting any building. You are welcome to bring your own hand sanitiser solutions to use throughout the day.
  • Keep your distance where possible and follow any social distancing measures that may remain in place around the Sixth Form.
  • If you feel unwell please take a lateral flow test before attending Sixth Form.

If you have COVID-19 symptoms

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Please remember that if you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 you must self-isolate and arrange a test using the NHS website or telephone NHS 111 and inform us immediately of any positive test results by emailing Student Services at studentservices@bedford.ac.uk

All 16 and 17-year-olds in England should have been offered their first coronavirus vaccine dose or the chance to book one. To find your nearest vaccination centre click here, which details centres that offer the vaccine to those aged 16 and 17, together with those aged 18 and over.
